HOUSE REVIEW:

I was in the Athlone area and happened to be passing the Kromboom Centre when my stomach started making lunch time rumbles. I’d been hearing alot about the The Lounge and decided to pull off and give it a whirl.

They’re on the second floor of the centre and as we climbed the stairs to get there I was glad to spot the lift which would enable wheelchair access. It’s a fresh and bright venue with large windows inviting in lots of light and making the most of the view.

The tables are covered in bright red, yellow or green table cloths and the bright decor on the walls give the place a vibey atmosphere. Inspite of it being the middle of the week, several tables were occupied. The sofas in the one corner were also taken by a group seeming to have a business meeting of sorts.

With the free WIFI available it would be a convenient place to come and have a cup of coffee (which by the way was very good) or two and get some work done on your laptop. Also ideal for business meetings.

We were more interested in the food though. I decided to have the house speciality which was the Masala steak burger. The steak could have been more saucy but overall the meal was tasty and well presented. It certainly filled the hole in my stomach. Service was friendly, quick and efficient.

The restaurant has a good menu with breakfast starting from R20 through to light meals, sandwiches, delectable mains including Sunday Biryani and somewhat predictable desserts. They also offer Sushi which include some very well priced platters.

There is a separate section where patrons can enjoy a hookah or cigar in the smoking lounge as well as an enclosed balcony section for more casual seating. Right next door is a Salaah Room for the convenience of anyone wishing to make their namaaz on time.

All in all, it’s a casual, family friendly place which I’m sure to visit again.
