The Good Food and Wine Show hits Cape Town

It’s that time of the year again and I’m hoping that this year there will be even more halaal offerings at the show. I attended the media launch for the Good Food and Wine Show this week and learned of some exciting new changes to the event.

The show will open its doors at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from Friday the 27th of May to Sunday the 29th of May 2016, sating the appetites of audiences hungry for a fresh show. This year’s show will feature a brand new look and feel and be packed with juicy new offerings and immersive experiences for the whole family. The show also offers attendees bang for their buck with a bigger show, more seating and space in which to explore the latest trends, take in talks and enjoy interactive experiences with chefs, experts and special guests in the various theatres.

There will be cooking classes for kids so more reason to bring the kids along. Where previously they had that big black curtain to block off the chef’s theatres that you had to pay for, they are now opening it up. 6 new theatres offer entertaining programmes in which your favourite chefs cook up a storm. Free of charge, on a first come, first served basis. Expect long queues for this. Celebrity Siba Mtongana and other chefs will be hosting a chef’s table at R600 and Headline Chef George Calombaris will be doing his thing in the theatres. Also featuring in the theatres are Adriano Zumbo, Claire Allen, J’something, Sarah Graham, and Siphokazi Mdlankomo.

Tickets start at R140 or R190 for a whole weekend pass. Kids under 12 enter free and Pensioners enter free on Friday.

What I’m looking forward to is the foodie installations, 8 of them. They will be new and innovative and according to the PR an extra sensory experience.

So far I have only 2 confirmed halaal vendors from the organisers – Tunisan Delights and Khamis Egyptian Shawarmas. There usually tends to be a few more so I’m holding thunbs to be pleasantly surprised when I’m there.

All in all, a show I am looking forward to. Keep an eye out for my look post after the event.
