What lies beyond… the Wembley oasis.

I grew up with Wembley Roadhouse being a destination venue… in spite of it being a takeaways. You must remember back in the day, ahem, the options for eating out were far fewer. So the iconic Roadhouse was a popular destination. They have managed to retain their iconic status by always being at the forefront of innovation. Later adding on the Wembley supermarket, bakery and butchery. And then also Wembley Travel and Tours. I hear they have now also opened an eye clinic.

So while the park and eat idea of the Roadhouse has always worked, at some point they realised people wanted a space where they could get out of their cars and stretch their legs. They then added a section next to the roadhouse which I assumed was a kind of dining hall, as I was never really too tempted to sit there to eat. But recently my curiosity got the better of me and I went to take a look. And was I pleasantly surprised at my discovery…

A little oasis was revealed. Perfect for relaxing with the kids under the open air. Wooden benches and a play area mean you can eat in peace while the kids play. And the area is competely enclosed so it’s secure. There is a small prayer area so you don’t have to miss a salaah and wudhu and toilet facilities are fresh, neat and clean. I am really impressed by this thoughtful addition to the Wembley offering. Well done folks.

This iconic Wembley Roadhouse has had a facelift since it’s humble beginnings.

    • Hi Shafeeka. We were able to just go in and sit down. Nobody was there to service the area. It’s more of a little secluded park than a restaurant.

  • Wembley’s is one of those places we visit at least once on every trip to Cape Town and on my last visit, I got the opportunity to sit in their garden and use the salaah room as well.
