The Northern Suburbs of Cape Town has always been a bit thin on halaal restaurants and eateries. We are glad to say that things have changed considerably in the last few years. While the north is still lagging behind the plethora of choices in the Southern Suburbs, the improvement has been notable. A few more choice sit-down options would be welcome and we hope to see that type of investment grow as the Muslim community in the north continues to increase. Here’s our round up of halaal spots in the north.

Sit-Down Restaurants

Bootlegger, Plattekloof Village
The Northern suburbs is sporting a brand new fully halaal branch of this iconic brand. Head to Plattekloof for the best Banana bread and coffee this side of the “boerewors gordyn”.

There is also a halaal Bootlegger Xpress store at N1 Value Centre in Goodwood.

Tomahawk Spur, Goodwood
The only halaal branch in the northern suburbs of this popular family friendly restaurant is located on Voortrekker Road in Goodwood. Head over for delicious burgers, steaks, ribs and fun and friendly vibes. It’s one of the few spots where you can still get the Spur Enchillada on request.

Nouveau Coffee & Grill, Century City
Nouveau is an upscale halaal restuarant situated in the Century City precinct. They offer an elevated menu of comfort grills, great breakfast and relaxed sophistication.

Sweetbeet, Plattekloof Village
A convenient spot for fast and friendly healthy meals and takeaways. They have a small seating area if you want to grab your laptop and do some work with a good coffee or turmeric latte.

Bin Rashied, Goodwood (Sit down & Takeaway)
Bin Rashied is a popular pizza place that also serves grills like chicken kebabs, wings, fillet steak as well as a range of burgers. Great for a quick takeout option or a casual sit down.

Ciao Pizza, Bloubergstrand
Expect authentic Neapolitan style pizzas with the signature sag in the middle and the crispiest puff on the outside at their casual pizza joint in Bloubergstrand.

One of Cape Town’s most popular destinations for sushi with a casual and relaxed vibe. Grab your crew and get your classic or gourmet fix at a Nuri N1 Value Centre.

Grill Baby, Parow
A casual sit-down eatery and takeaway that serves up pizzas, calzones, and subs. One of the few places you can get a Jaffle.

Turkish Döner Haus, Tygervalley Centre
This popular Turkish fast food eatery took Canal Walk by storm when they first opened over a year ago. They have now opened a second branch in Tygervalley centre where you can get your döner and kebab. The meals are generous and there’s always leftovers. Find them in the food court.

Shakes & Cakes Spot, Goodwood
A casual fast food eatery specialising in vienna and chips parcels, hot dogs, penny polony rolls and decadent desserts. The candy stripe frontage is hard to miss.

Izzy Burger, Goodwood
Having started from their home in Belgravia Road in Athlone they have a consistently good product focussed only on burgers and chips. It has proved a hit and they now have several branches with the latest on Milton street in Goodwood.

Saleh BBQ Tonight, Goodwood
A favourite for Chicken Tikka, you can also get anything from curries, gatsby and sandwiches to parcels, burgers and chinese food. It’s well priced and a popular choice for Friday night takeouts.

La Infernos, Plattekloof
A great choice for wood fired pizza in the northern suburbs. La inferno launched their second store in the Southern suburbs. Upstairs at the Woolies in Kromboom road you’ll find a touch of pizza heaven. They have sit-down, take away and delivery options.

This online takeaway outlet serves good quality North Indian cuisine. From Butter chicken and korma to naan and samoosas.

Bootlegger Xpress, Cape Gate
Get your favourite coffee and a light meal or pastry at the Bootlegger express store in Cape Gate Shopping Mall.

Tessa’s Bakery, Milnerton
A bright and cheerful, family-run bakery known for scratch-made cakes, cupcakes, and treats. Perfect for celebrations, they offer custom bakes, party packs and delivery across Cape Town. Find another cute and cosy branch at Riverlands Mall in Observatory.

Flambos, Parow Valley
This is a road house style takeout located at the BP garage on the corner of Connaught road and Francie van Zyl just outside Cravenby. Just order at the window and collect your food or take a seat inside in their booth style seating. They do burgers, gatsby’s, hot dogs and even pizza’s. Their fan burger is pretty good.

Halaal certified fisheries in Tygerdal in the little supermarkert complex on the corner of Alice Street and Frans Conradie. Serves fish n chips as well as sushi, gatsby’s and hotdogs.
