Three celebs. Three pizzas. Three months.

If you are still wondering why Col’Cacchio has popped up all over South Africa during the last 25 years, then you haven’t tried their gourmet pizzas. It has become a well known Italian-inspired restaurant that promises quality food and atmosphere. Over the years the co-founders have taken their consumer’s dietary preferences into consideration, which can be seen by their Banting or vegan options. Naturally, Muslim foodies celebrated when Col’Cacchio branches at key locations became Halaal certified. Finally we can make our way through the entire menu of artisanal pizzas, creamy pastas and crisp salads. Now we can donate to charity while doing so!

Col’Cacchio is pinning three celebrities against each other to create their very own pizzas, which will be added to their menu from the 7th September until the end of November. With every Celebrity Chef pizza sold, R5 gets donated to The Children’s Hospital Trust. This will provide much needed funding for an upgraded ER unit at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. Having volunteered at the hospital before, I can tell from personal experience that the patients and staff need better ER facilities to give children the best health care possible.

Colcacchio Jack Parow

The three personalities behind the pizzas are Jack Parow, local Afrikaans rapper (who is never seen without his extra long cap). Then we have the content queen Nadia Jaftha, and finally cooking show host and super-mom Siba Mtongana. Jack Parow brings the braai to the pizza oven with “Wors Tokolosh”, a meaty combination of pepperoni and boerewors. The flavours are complimented with mozzarella plus extra smoked mozzarella, rosso onion and roasted cherry tomatoes. Only one word comes to mind – lekker! The inspiration behind Nadia’s “Jou Ma Sala” is definitely her mother’s cooking as it consists of masala chicken, coriander chutney, mozzarella, black mushrooms, cheddar, chutney yoghurt and fresh coriander. It’s like mom’s cooking with a twist! The “Sibalicious” pizza looks just as good as its namesake. She was inspired by her kids to create a pizza topped with sticky chicken pieces, mozzarella, pepperdews, sesame seeds, spring onions and lime.

Each of the square-shaped Celebrity Showdown pizzas is on Col’Cacchio’s menu until the end of November, priced at R119 each. Which one will you be sinking your teeth into?
