5 Halaal Johannesburg restaurants that need to open in Cape Town

Adega sandton hungry for halaal

Cape Town is known as a foodies’ paradise. Yet with its myriad options there’s still a few great franchise restaurants that have slipped through its foodie clutches. Joburgers always say Cape Town Muslims are so lucky because they have more halaal options. But Jozi is catching up pretty fast in that department. Here’s 5 hotspots Capetonians would love to get their sticky fingers on….

Adega

Adega is a Portuguese sit down semi formal restaurant that makes an array of traditional Portuguese dishes such as their zesty chicken and grilled steak as well as flavorful prawn and seafood platters.

Calisto’s

Launched in 1992, Calisto’s is a Portuguese sit down restaurant offering flamed grilled Portuguese chicken, seafood and meat, with meals that are freshly prepared in the traditional Portuguese way using only the freshest, finest ingredients available. It is family friendly and is good for group celebrations.

Burgerack

Think 60’s style diner with a modern twist. You almost expect your waiter to come rolling out to serve you on roller skates. Burgerack is not a new franchise in Johannesburg and Durban and several of their stores are fully halaal. Burgerack is known for their signature burgers, particularly, the Rockafeller, a 150g beef patty, mozzarella cheese, caramelized grilled onions, mushrooms, jalapeños, tomato & dill pickles, topped with mustard mayo.

Nonna’s Kitchen

A great alternative to Col’cacchios for Italian food. It’s a little more upmarket than Panarottis so good for a date night too. The menu offers Italian style starters, pasta and pizza in a rustic rectangular shape as well as a small dessert menu and mocktails.

Rocomamas

And the one all Capetonians have been waiting for. Rocomamas is a grunge rock burger and freak shake bar. They are known for outrageous milkshakes and waffles and an array of burgers. I can vouch for their chicken wings which are outstanding.
