Easy Cinnabon Recipe

You know that smell you get each time you pass a Cinnabon store… the one that makes you open your wallet and part with your Rands every… single… time! Well I’ve got a recipe that’s so easy and it’s going to save you a whole lotta Rands. Cos when you add it up, them buns are expensive!

I was given this recipe years ago by my cousin and it can also be found on Food.com along with many more versions, but it’s as close as dammit to the real thing. It takes a little time because of the rising time but the sheer happiness it generates makes all the effort worth it.

Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

Rolls
1 10g packet of instant yeast
1 cup warm milk
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups flour
1/3 cup margarine, melted
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs

Filling
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup margarine, softened
2 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon

Icing
1/2 cup margarine
1 1/2 cups icing sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup cream cheese
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Rolls:
Combine dry ingredients in large bowl. Add remaining roll ingredients. Mix well. Knead dough into large ball using hands dusted lightly with flour. Cover and let rise until double. About 1 hour.
Roll dough onto lightly floured surface into 40×50 cm rectangle. Should be about 6 or 7mm thick.

Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.
Filling:
Combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
Spread softened margarine evenly over the surface of dough.
Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar evenly over surface.
Working carefully from a 50cm side, roll dough to opposite edge.
Cut rolled dough into 1cm slices and place cut side down on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes or until light brown.

Icing:
While rolls are in oven combine icing ingredients and mix until fluffy.
Coat each cinnamon roll generously with icing after removing from oven.

Serve hot and bask in the adoration of all who will worship you. 😄
