2019 has seen more innovation in the halaal food scene than before. More eateries are experimenting with clean eating and changing up the norm with fried burgers and rainbow cappuccinos. Johannesburg is giving Cape Town a run for its money in the amount of halaal restaurants opening up. Cape Town is still seeking good halaal fine dining though there are some contenders. Wagyu is very on-trend and has become a common feature in many restaurants and middle eastern influence is still strong but with better quality venues.

Every year we run a poll to find out who our readers think is the best restaurant in Cape Town. This year we are running two competitions. One for Cape Town and one for Johannesburg. You can enter one or both but only one vote is allowed on each competition. And you’ll need to be able to get yourself to your prize if you win in that region.
