For lovers of flame-grilled you will be excited to hear that Pedros is opening up all over Mzanzi. We tried out the new Boksburg branch this week to get a taste of what the fuss is all about.

The store is located in Bonaero Park and they have a Drive-thru as well. The décor is bright, fun and fresh with funky lighting. Seating is spacious with booths and large tables for bigger groups. They also have outside seating which is enclosed but still offers an outdoor feel.

We tried the Viva Meal, a Full Chicken, Large Chips, Large Rice, Salad, 4 Rolls & a 2L Sparletta. It’s a perfect family meal for 4 people. They’re also running a competition where you can WIN a VW Polo Vivo with the purchase of a Viva Meal so there’s a serious incentive to get that meal.

We had the option of mild, hot, extra hot, lemon & herb or bbq in sprinkle spice or sauce. I thought having the option of ordering either a basting (sauce) or a sprinkle (spice) was awesome. We opted for mild sauce for Taufeeq’s sake, but I learnt afterwards I could have had it half n half.

I love that the chicken was drenched in sauce. The flavour was tangy with just a touch of mild heat. We used the rolls to mop up all the sauce cause you simply cannot leave that behind.

I also tried the Pina Colada mocktail, one of 4 flavours. I thought it was a bit on the mild side, the flavour needed more punch for me but hubby enjoyed it. The Jalapeno Poppers were yum. They were rather like chicken halfmoons though, but the filling was delicious.

The prices are extremely affordable. This generous family meal goes for R179.90. A quarter chicken meal is R49.90 and single burgers start from R29.90! I’d definitely go back soon. There’s some Jalapeno fries on the menu still calling my name…
