National Mosque Open Day

National Mosque Open Day had been running for six years and after a two-year hiatus is back. It will take place as it does annually on 24 September, Heritage Day in South Africa.

Started by SAMNET (South African Muslim Network) in South Africa, it is successfully run in other major countries of the world. With the rise of misinformation and Islamophobia it is an opportunity for South Africans from different races, religions & cultures across the country to experience and understand the beauty and diversity of Islam at a participating mosque.

SAMNET encourages every mosque in every city and town to get on board for the day. Dr. Faisel Suliman, SAMNET Chairperson, explained it is a perfect opportunity to educate the local community on Islam. Those mosques which sign up will receive Islamic literature as well as being trained for the day. Mosques that want to join can find the details on SAMNET’s site.

The Mosque Open Day will be hosted on Saturday, 24 September 2022 between 2pm and 4pm at participating mosques.
