The seaside town of Hermanus in the Cape in South Africa is an iconic tourist destination. Popular for whale watching where at season times you can spot these great ocean giants close to the shore, it is also a treasured spot to just get away for the weekend to rest and unwind.
It’s pretty enough to get loads of tourists in summer and rustic enough to still maintain a simple and easy charm.
The Muslim population of Hermanus has slowly increased in the last 20 years. Enough so that they have built a 2nd Mosque in the town. It has one of the most modern and beautiful minarets I have ever seen and is part of The Ismail and Miriam Ebrahim Islamic Centre.
There are a few halaal spots where you can go to eat. Most are simple coffee shops, eateries and takeaways. They have yet to get a more upmarket halaal restaurant in the town.

Great list, but needs to be updated as we have just returned from Hermanus and found that:
* Gone Grilling and AlMadina no longer appear to exist
* There is a halaal-certified KFC in the main road (not far from the Debonairs)
* There is a halaal-certified Kauai inside the Checkers in the old Railway Station mall
* There is a halaal Indian restaurant – Mount Everest halaal Indian restaurant – on Main Rd (opposite the Shell garage and Clicks)
* There is a halaal-certified McDonald’s at Whale Coast mall (as well as a KFC at the Engen garage next to Whale Coast Mall)
Thanks for the feedback Muneerah. We heard that Gone Grilling is still operational. And we are getting mixed information about Mount Everest which is why we have not added them to the list yet.
