Lal Qila is known for Mughlai inspired IndoPak cuisine. After years of being part of the Palm Continental Hotel in Fordsburg, they made the move to Sandton in November last year and are establishing a firm foothold in their new location.
As an family focussed restaurant they are a popular destination for large family groups. But they are setting their sites on the younger generation. Their outside deck has been popular with shisha smokers for some time. Now they are launching a Friday Night Braai Buffet. Complete with live braai stations, pani puri cart, salad and dessert station and the hugest puri pillow I have ever seen fried while you wait.
2 Braai stations offer, chops, sausage, wors, sheesh kebab, chicken malai bhoti, reshmi kebab, wings, and more. It’s braaied while you wait which meant some queuing. Hopefully they’ll add Bain Maries for this instead so you can help yourself to meat already cooked. There was a variety of salads and desserts with a selection of Indian and local. I could not resist the Gajar Halwa and can vouch that the Rasmalai is excellent. Not too sweet which is how I like it.
If you like to while away your weekends over a hubbly, you’ll be glad to know the buffet comes with free shisha. The deck was a bit cold during June, but they did have heaters to warm you up. And in summer it’s going to be pumping.
Cost: R290 p/p, Kids between 4 & 9 R190 p/p. Reservations are recommended.
