Winter Menu Launch at Miha

Winter menu launches are on fire right now, and we got to preview the latest from Miha Restaurant at Melrose Arch. Our newest contributer, Saadia Bodiat gives us the skinny…

Miha is situated at the upmarket mall of Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. They’re open 7 days a week with a variety of dishes to suit the palate of the whole family. It’s a classy venue for anything from an event, a get-to-together or a cosy family dinner.

We were invited to the launch of Miha’s Winter menu 2023. I was so warmly welcomed by our hostess, Tasneem. I felt right at home as she walked beside me to the seating area and introduced me to the guests. We were addressed with a welcome note from the host who explained the events details meticulously.

The restaurant interior is modern and elegantly designed. It is large and airy with contemporary dining tables and seating. The menu is tastefully curated and boasts a large selection from soups, to toasted sandwiches and other SA street-side cafe food, to hearty homestyle foods like curries and exceptional desserts.

We were treated to tasters from their Winter menu which now includes breakfast everyday from 10am to 12pm. I particularly like the breakfast offering and especially that it caters to the slow-morning lifestyle.

To begin we sampled their breakfast selection which is anything from an omelette and tantalising shakshouka with middle Eastern sides to decadent french toast. It’s a breakfast I could ditch my oversized gown and drive for!

We then sampled their lunch and dinner menu. With food choices from across the spectrum there is something for every day of the week. With a toasted sandwich or chips and polony you can beat the Saturday cafe rush and instead opt for a cozy, relaxed dining experience in Melrose arch while people-watching from it’s 1st story location.

I’d gladly pop into Miha and rope my family along on a Friday at lunch (Jumuah) for a hearty karahi, a tantalising prawn curry or a spicy chicken curry. I would have liked a choice of breads and not only the rice served with the curries though. But it’s hearty and feels like home. You could probably consider it standard practice to visit Miha for a weekend spoil too – with a reservation of course.

The desserts were eye catching but very sweet and I have mixed feelings about the banana french toast. I prefer something a little tart to cut through the sweetness. The French hot chocolate with croissant had the ladies swooning and had me booking out my calendar for a girls tea.

A side note:
The seating was personalised and the asthetics of the setup was detailed and gorgeous. We each received a bouquet of roses brought together by The Dainty Daisy that was personalized with a tag. A special thank you to the team at Miha for the outstanding event.
