Food Truck Valley revives weekends in Goodwood

If you live in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town and you haven’t heard of this bustling foodie hotspot yet then you need to move that rock…

Food Truck Valley is the brainchild of Qayum Camroodien. Formerly of Gourmet Boerie which offered seriously pimped up Boeries from their home on the weekends. He now is behind the Food Truck Valley concept which runs every weekend Friday to Sunday in the N1 Value Centre parking area in Goodwood.

We checked it out on a Friday night this July, and inspite of the cold winter night it was packed and pumping. There were lots of different types of cuisines on offer, from burgers, pizza and Asian food to corndogs, gourmet milkshakes, coffee and waffles. We counted about 20 vendors that night. There are some regulars but they also change from week to week.

The vibe was festive and the queues a bit long at some of the more popular vendors. By 9pm some were even sold out though they are there till late at night. Many people swing by to pick up an order and take it home but there are tables and seating as well. Come spring and summer they are going to be packed.

We had the Bao from Say Catering. We were super lucky to get the last order in and had the option with 3 different Bao of beef, chicken and prawn. It was excellent though must be eaten immediately or else will get soggy. We got Burgers from Rack n Grill, Onion rings from Jango and the most amazing pocket-crunching shakes from Coffia. It was not a cheap dinner but it was so good!

N1 Value Centre seems to be having a foodie re-invention as there is also a Nuri Sushi, Dairy Den and Bootlegger(not halaal) that have opened in the complex. Definitely a reason to go to the north.
