“Hey Salaam” was the catch phrase for this urban hip, relaxed café in Cape Town serving their carefully sourced signature blend of coffee and Malay fusion cuisine.

Situated against the backdrop of the Bo Kaap community, Against the Grain was a spot that became a cosy respite, a watering hole for serious coffee enthusiasts and a gathering place for many. We loved bagels, the pastries and the contemporary way they brought Islamic art and culture into their branding and decor.

It’s a sad farewell and a heartfelt hope that we will see them re-invented again soon.
