Padel has been the biggest buzzword in leisure sports for the last 2 years. If you haven’t tried your hand at this sport yet, then where have you been.
It’s a smaller court than Tennis and uses a chunkier raquet. The rules and style of play is a bit like squash and is usually 4 people to a court. There are now professional tournaments and leagues so it’s transitioning into a serious sport as well.
There have been quite a few courts springing up in the more Muslim populated areas in Johannesburg. Communities are seeing the need for hubs where young people can blow off steam in a safe and family friendly environment. Consequently several halaal restaurants and eateries have also opened as part of these hubs. They are not all simple cafés. Some offer a sophisticated menu and ambiance. And these are eating destinations that offer quite a different vibe from the norm by way of being part of these sports complexes. So put on your tennis shoes and head out for some padel and nosh near you.
