There’s so much information and experiences that people are bombarded with all day, every day that to hold their attention you have to do something quite unique. This is exactly what Saray Turkish Restaurant have done by introducing their new Gold Cappuccino to their menu.
But why would you want to drink something so extravagant when Cape Town already boasts some of the best coffeehouses around? Well, because there’s something rather special about drinking your coffee covered in gold. For one it is highly instagrammable, and while it does not change the taste of your drink, the gold leaf offers some health benefits. Gold has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties, amongst others. So even for coffee purists this should be an interesting experience.
Places like Dubai have offered gold covered cappuccinos for years and it’s not that hard to find there. But in South Africa, this is a first. And many will be either chomping at the bit to try the newness or turning up their nose at the sheer extravagance.
So what will this new and luxurious confection set you back you ask? Saray is offering this 18 carat gold leaf covered cappuccino at R350. It is hefty but on par with most of the places in Dubai and cheaper than in the UK.
Are you keen to try this and would you pay that much? Let us know in the comments.

Aslm, I love Surays, the food is really to die for but unfortunately I would think twice before buying the cappuccino. I would rather treat someone less fortunate than me to a meal.
Thats just my feelings.
We totally get you Siham.
