The brainchild of Saajiedah Rawoot, Munch Time is levelling up the local savouries game in Cape Town. I first discovered the Munch Time treats at the 786 Ramadaan Expo and was impressed by the quality and out-of-the-ordinary savoury varieties available. Think mini-pides, pizza cones and crumbed rockets.

We got to sample a selection of their convenient pre-packed savouries as well as desserts from their bespoke catering service offerings. The freshly made steak and chicken pies were well flavoured with a good quality puff pastry. Mini pizzas and filled pitas were tasty and toppings generous.

From the frozen range the mini-pides were a novel treat. The crumbed rockets and the moons were generously filled with chicken or beef but could have been a bit more saucy. I loved the cute mini pink buns with various fillings. They really add a touch of whimsy to any table. Mini rolls and bagels are available on order (as part of a platter) or an order on its own.

The chocolate layered cheesecake with delicate chocolate collar was almost too pretty to eat. But sigh… someone had to do it. There was no doubt that only quality ingredients were used as the texture was smooth and dense and flavour was chocolatey without being too sweet.

The desserts included 4 beautifully presented layered cakes perfect for special occasions. The trending Lazy Cat Cake, a Carrot and Cream Cheese cake, a Falooda Tres Leche with jelly cubes and a subtle rose flavour, my favourite, and a Lemon Curd Cheesecake made with the most delicious home made lemon curd.
