Tzatziki: The Coolest Kid at the Mezze Table

If there’s one dip that knows how to keep its cool, it’s Tzatziki. This Greek yogurt-based wonder has been refreshing taste buds since ancient times. Originating in Greece (and with cousins found all across the Middle East and Mediterranean), tzatziki has long been the trusted sidekick to grilled meats, warm pita, and anyone who’s ever overestimated their chili tolerance and needed something soothing fast.

Creamy, garlicky, tangy and fresh, tzatziki is the kind of condiment that instantly elevates a meal.

What We Use It For

Tzatziki is typically served with:

  • Grilled chicken or lamb
  • Falafel
  • Gyros and souvlaki
  • Roasted veggies
  • Pita bread (dangerously addictive)
  • Basically anything that needs a refreshing lift

Quick & Easy Tzatziki Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Greek or double cream yogurt
  • ½ cucumber, grated and water squeezed out
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of ½ small lemon
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley (traditionally dill is used)
  • 1 tsp chopped fresh mint (opt)
  • ½ tsp of mixed herbs sprinkle (opt)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Method:

  1. Mix everything together in a bowl like you’re crafting a masterpiece.
  2. Taste and adjust seasoning. If your garlic knocks you out, you’ve added the right amount.
  3. Chill for at least 20 minutes to let the flavours mingle.

Fresh, simple, and always a crowd-pleaser – tzatziki proves that sometimes the coolest things in life come in a small bowl.

I used it recently as a base and a topping for my homemade Greek Style Shawarma Gyro and it pairs perfectly.
