The newest kid on the East Rand block is Boba Tea Café. Yes, Benoni has yet another new place to eat at. Lakefield Junction, the extension, now boasts Boba Tea nestled between Romans Pizza and Zaika.
The shop space is large and airy and the design is modern with flat screens all around. Don’t expect to find a large range of food on the menu. There is a small breakfast section and then food on the go like burgers and sandwiches and Bubble Waffles. Yes, if you were wondering whatever happened to the Bubble Waffle, it can now be found here. They also have a small display fridge with mini entremets (that’s posh for teeny tiny gorgeous little desserts).
Bubble tea is all the rage and they have a substantial selection. The drinks variety includes from cold beverages such as sodas and milk with boba or tapioca bubbles to hot drinks in the form of a solid coffee menu.
Sunday afternoon it appears, is quite a busy time at Lakefield Junction and Boba had its fair share of the pie. We tried the drinks, Taufeeq went for the chocolate milk with boba and the adults ordered a Turkish soda and an orange soda with boba pearls. We also tried the crumbed chicken burger and the wagyu pulled beef sandwich.
The chocolate milk was good with fun chewy boba rather than the bursting ones. Both sodas were good albeit a tad on the sweet side. The food was really good and flavours were spicy. I thought the bread used for the toasted sandwich needed to be more substantial than the standard white bread used. Chips were chunky and well seasoned and I loved the presentation with microgreens. It added another flavour layer to the chips which I really enjoyed.
They have a window counter seating area with plug points, which is great if you need a change of scenery from your normal office space.
