LalQila is an authentic Mughlai inspired Tandoori restaurant specialising in traditional IndoPak cuisine, with live cooking demonstrations.

We attended the official launch event last week along with dozens of well known Joahnnesburg Influencers. It was an event of note.

The new restaurant is smart with an upmarket Indian feel. I loved the engraved Indian lamps which lend a warm and intimate ambiance. There is ample seating to cater for large groups and functions. With 88 dishes to choose from on the buffet they are well equipped to cater for those large groups. If you need a larger space they have a covered events venue attached to the restaurant which is ideal for big functions like weddings or conferences.

Dishes that stood out was the roasted prawns masala, butter chicken, the sheesh kebab and boti kebab. But there was more food than one could try in one visit. Both puris and naan was available to have with your mains and there was some Asian options like noodles and and a saucy chicken as well.

We loved the pani puri station which is a great starter. They have a braai going the whole time for all kinds of grills for the meat-lovers. It made the place a bit smokey at times when they were going full tilt.

The buffet stations included Indian desserts like rasmallai, kheer and gajar halwa along with some mini cakes and puddings. The Indian desserts were amazing but I was not a fan of the puddings.

They have an outside deck where you can have some hookah and drinks. There are comfy couches and some tables. It’s a nice option to come and chill at after your big meal inside. And there’s no doubt that that’s the kind of meal you will have when you come here. It’s go big, or go home.

Dinner Buffet is available 7 days a week. Lunch Buffet on Saturdays and Sunday Brunch Buffet.
