Previously known as Yugo Foodbar, this Asian fusion restaurant was renamed to Waku and opened as fully halaal in October 2021. A casually chic eatery on Oxford road in Rosebank it is conveniently located near Rosebank mall and made for the perfect lunch stop on a chilly Saturday.

We parked in the underground parking of the office block just off Eastwood road and took the escalator up to ground level. The restaurant had a few tables occupied but wasn’t too busy so we got a table straight away.

I like the double volume space with exposed aircon and the quirky decor on the slate walls. Some indoor plants and greenery break the grey and make it a fresh and welcoming space. The large floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of light and the comfy seats at the back are perfect for parking with your laptop and working over several coffees.

They serve a fusion menu of baked goods, asian dishes like ramen and bao (sadly no potstickers) and burgers. It was cold out so we ordered from the Hotpot menu. The waitress recommended the Prawn Ramen which comes with Shimeji mushrooms, pickled ginger and 4 big prawns. This dish was so good and the pickled ginger added a nice zing. Zulfi had the chicken livers which were even better. It had a Portuguese flavour and was tangy and just hot enough.

We spotted burgers coming to another table. Now I can’t quite vouch for the taste just yet, but they were huge and very well presented. Service was little bit slow but the food was well worth it. I will definitely be swinging by again for more.
