HOUSE REVIEW:
If you’re the “cereal for breakfast, lunch or dinner” type, then this little hole in the wall close to the end of Long street, near Ciao Pizza, is just for you.
Effectively they are an ice-cream parlour, serving variations of soft-serve with imported cereal toppings, as well as coffee, cookies and some pastries. Owned by a Johannesburg family, they offer Manaka Coffee, one of my favourite coffee shops in Johannesburg. They also bring in a brand of frozen cookie dough and pastries from Joburg brands, Bake it Yourself and Farm Mill Bakery, both great quality products which I have tried in Joburg and can vouch for.
The interior is small and cheerful with minimal seating at a counter along the wall and a small couch for those insta-worthy selfies.
We had a Swirl with cereal swirled through the ice cream, a milkshake with cereal blended into the shake, a Cereal Burger which is ice cream and cereal sandwiched in a toasted brioche bun, and a simple cookie and cortado. The average price of items is about R60 to R80. The cereal bowl with milk comes in at R45. It’s steep for a small bowl of cereal but expected considering it’s all the imported brands.
Most of the pastries on the menu were not available. They had some cupcakes, croissants and 4 types of cookies, one of which was a naan khatai. I can say the choc chip cookie we had was yum.
I’m a gelato girl myself, so I wouldn’t make an effort for soft-serve but it’s a cute and novel stop if you’re in the neighbourhood and need to feed your sweet tooth.
